Babylon, Ancient Roots, and Horoscope
ALIEN FACE
Babylon once stood as a central hub of ancient Mesopotamian civilization, home to the Sumerians who settled between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. What was once a modest settlement has grown into a much larger, densely populated region in present-day Iraq. In biblical scripture, Babylon is symbolically linked to excess and moral decline — referenced in Revelation as a city ultimately destined for destruction due to its embrace of practices, including divination, that were considered spiritually corrupting.
Among those practices: astrology and horoscopes — a tradition many believe originated, at least in part, from ancient Babylonian civilization, and one that continues to shape how people understand themselves today.
A Perspective on Horoscopes
From my perspective, horoscopes function less like harmless entertainment and more like a subtle framework that can shape how people see themselves — sometimes in ways that limit rather than reveal who they truly are. Many people don't fully examine this influence until they stop and reflect on it.
One way to start: consider your own zodiac sign and think critically about which traits associated with it you've internalized — and which ones might have more to do with your personal experiences, especially from childhood, than with anything inherent to your character.
The Zodiac Signs
- Aries (March 21 – April 19) — Fire, symbolized by the Ram
- Taurus (April 20 – May 20) — Earth, symbolized by the Bull
- Gemini (May 21 – June 20) — Air, symbolized by the Twins
- Cancer (June 21 – July 22) — Water, symbolized by the Crab
- Leo (July 23 – August 22) — Fire, symbolized by the Lion
- Virgo (August 23 – September 22) — Earth, symbolized by the Maiden
- Libra (September 23 – October 22) — Air, symbolized by the Scales
- Scorpio (October 23 – November 21) — Water, symbolized by the Scorpion
- Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21) — Fire, symbolized by the Archer
- Capricorn (December 22 – January 19) — Earth, symbolized by the Goat
- Aquarius (January 20 – February 18) — Air, symbolized by the Water Bearer
- Pisces (February 19 – March 20) — Water, symbolized by the Fish
Each sign is traditionally associated with certain personality tendencies — some grounded in ancient mythology, others shaped by centuries of popular interpretation. Common folk associations include: Aries with quick tempers, Taurus with stubbornness, Gemini with duality or inconsistency, Cancer with emotional sensitivity, Leo with pride, Virgo with perfectionism and jealousy, Libra with internal conflict, Scorpio with guardedness, Sagittarius with bluntness, Capricorn with rigid work ethic, Aquarius with unconventional thinking, and Pisces with emotional intensity.
Final Thoughts
Whether you view horoscopes as spiritually meaningful, purely cultural tradition, or simply entertainment, it's worth being intentional about how much influence you allow any external framework — astrological or otherwise — to have over your sense of identity. Real growth and self-understanding come from reflection or your own values, not from a predetermined label.
